Iorwerth Rowlands hands over the cheque  for £286,000.00 received from the Community Fund,  to the Chairman, John Wynne Jones   watched by ( L to R) Treasurer, Laurence Roberts, Secretary, Angie Hennessey and P.R.O. John Morris.

Updated -26/10/02

The youth of  this south-east corner of Anglesey have waited a long time for it - but FIFTH TIME LUCKY and   we will soon be able to refurbish and re-equip  our Youth Centre and extend the services it will provide.

Thanks   to the grants having   been awarded,  totalling  £537,000.00,   by the Community Fund, the Heritage Lottery Fund(provisionally - £188,000), CADW, The Anglesey County Council, Cwmni Gwastraf Mon-Arfon and  Menter Mon,  we will soon  be   in a position to invite tenders for the work.

The Management Committee and Members  express their grateful  appreciation of the risks taken by   our  appointed engineers,  Messrs  Symonds of Colwyn Bay(Mr Alun Williams, Project Manager and Mr John Owen, Quantity Surveyor)who prepared the costings  and Mr George O'Dell, Chartered Architect,  who prepared   the  plans   for the submission, both parties on a condition of "No grant - No charge". Without this  generous assistance the submission would have been considerably  delayed.

There will also be periods  when  the Centre will be available to the community at large with   the provision of IT training etc.. Details will be  announced later.

5th July 02 - No news on our application received to this date.

A NEW APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE COMMUNITY FUND AND THE NATIONAL HERITAGE FUND ON THE 26TH APRIL 02.

March 3rd - 02. The Community Fund have advised us that our bid(November 28th - 01) for Lottery Funding has not been successful, due to a shortage of funds.

Another submission will be made in April, when a new scheme for funding is introduced on a joint basis, by The Community Fund and NOF and which will be targetting at five counties in Wales, one of them being Anglesey. Unfortunately, this will mean a further delay in the urgently required refurbishment of the Church Hall and in the provision of a much needed "Drop-In Centre" for the youth of the area.

We nearly made it this time - hopefully we will have better news in July.

My thanks to the Committee and the Young Members for their support.

Iorwerth Rowlands.

Information has been received from the Heritage Lottery Fund that a Grants Officer

has now been allocated to examine our submission for the refurbishment of the Church Hall.
